Building the Center
Part of restorative process circle practice is "speaking into the center." It is the place where our many voices and perspectives mix, and from which new ideas and possibilities arise. Because of this we take care to build our centers in a way that is compatible with the needs of the group and the situation we are in.
Centers are often very simple; some flowers, a candle, perhaps a bowl of water. The candle is used whenever possible, and is said to represent the children in our communities and those who are yet to be born. A bowl of water is good when the circle is holding grief and conflict; water has a condoling effect that can help with healing.
On this page we've provided some photos of a few centers that have been created, sometimes by circle leaders and sometimes by participants.
